But the unique combination of Fallout Style retro-future apocalypse combined with the Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lost World elements were definitely something new. Like, we’ve seen games based on a comic book a million times before. And since I’ve got to read some of the comic stories only after I’ve first played the game itself, I can only imagine what it must have been like for the comic fans when they first popped that coin into the cabinet. But what makes Cadillacs and Dinosaur so fun is its settings and atmosphere. I mean, it’s a perfectly good and fun brawler on its own. And, well, that’s not where it exactly excels. Now, gameplay-wise, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs are pretty much your average Capcom-style brawler: isometric view and movement, four characters to choose from (up to three players can play simultaneously), destructible surroundings (which usually yields you some kind of reward like bonus score points or HPs), weapon pick-ups-you get the idea. There the protagonists, the eponymous Cadillacs, named after their ‘sort of leader’ Jack “Cadillac” Tenrec, find themselves fighting a group of poachers called Black Marketeers, who (for unknown reasons) hunt and capture wild dinosaurs, which makes the animals afraid of-and thus hostile towards-humans, breaking the fragile equilibrum between the surviving humanity and the new thriving ecosystem. Half naked chicks, dinosaurs, vintage rides and guns in a single package, you say? Well, count me in!īased on the popular 1990’s comic book series titled Xenozoic Tales (or C&D), Cadillacs and Dinosaurs follow the same group of characters (from the comic) living in a post-apocalyptic 26th century, in which the Earth (after the humanity took refuge in underground shelters for circa six hundred years) has been repopulated by previously extinct species, namely dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures. And again, the reason I got this was to get a spare working A board and C-board.Description of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs ROM - MAME Don't think he has the ability to re-shuffle/customize your modified ROMs. I tried combining the ROMs but they don't match up with anything the seller was a local guy, bought it from one of the "ebay like" local online sites. I gave up on this since there is no way I can manage to get something up running on this board because of that PIC and none of the ROMs seems match to anything. This is a typical repro from China (or Spain or Italy) which uses un-reproducable parts from "not so popular" games (another reason that they are now rare and have high collectable value). May be to protect the bootleg from other bootleggersĪnyway, the A and C are originals. There is this PIC microcontroller which I don't know its purpose. no code or numbers on them) and lastly, the idiots soldered one of the C-board connectors the other way around (I mean one of the notches on C-board connector needs to bend it to get plugged in)Īlso, it is not a 100% copy of any known Capcom B-board. Third, the PALs are not officially labeled (i.e. Second, when you hold it, you feel its repro, lighter green solder mask, poor solder job. How I can tell?įirst, there are no Capcom logo or B-board number silkscreened. The photos can be misleading because it is indeed a good repro. It is not originally manufactured by Capcom (or whoever the official PCB manufacturer for Capcom was back then). Is there a way to determine the type of the C board asic by examining the program ROM the B-board is indeed a "back-then" (around 90's) reproduction. The C board PCB is a 88622-C-5, just like the Final Fight C board but the ASIC is not a CPS-B-04 (tested on my FF didnt worked). I've read some MAME source code on the net mentioning a bootleg B-board with PIC but the title was Street Fighter not C&D.ġ) Can I convert this into something else? Such as Ghouls'n Ghosts?Ģ) Do you think it would worth dumping the ROMs before I decide what to do with this? (May be they are already in MAME, don't know yet)ģ) The bootlegger scratched out the C board ASICs model number on the chip. I understand this is an adaption for the lacking Q-sound but the loop is taken so short It really sounds annoying. The only problem I see with this half-bootleg is that the music in levels are looping. The sprite priorities are OK (Better than the single PCB bootlegs). It plays the C&D with correct name & logo (Not a "Dinosaur Hunter"). The B board is a genuine bootleg, not a convert/hack, with a PIC16C55 microcontroller on it. I knew it was a bootleg but the price was OK for just a working A board, a spare C board and sh** load of EPROMs.
